SHIPPING FORECAST REBRAND

The Shipping Forecast is a service on BBC Radio 4, which forecasts the weather for the seas surrounding the British Isles. The surrounding seas are split into thirty-one areas, each with distinctive names. The Shipping Forecast has since found a cult following, frequently parodied, with many people using it as a sleeping aid. I wanted to reinvent it into an eye-catching brand that would intrigue commuters and introduce a new wave of listeners to the Shipping Forecast. The blocked lettering is inspired by stacks of containers onboard cargo ships. The typeface used is Univers Ultra Condensed which is often used on containers. I also used waveform patterns to represent isobars, which visualise air pressure. These patterns intertwine with the type, mimicking the movement of the wind.
